All of my skins I am developing now
Sidebar Gadgets
Published on June 15, 2008 By Automan In DesktopX Tutorials

Hello again folks;

Have a very quick question here as to the use of the windows sidebar gadgets..

Is there a way to change them so that a person could use them with out using the side bar. In my DesktopX theme I have a few Side Bar Gadets that I would like to make show in the middle of the screen or be seen with a Object.visible controlling them.

I have tried to use the Norton's free Internet Threat meter, but can't seem to be able to get it to not be a sidebar object.

It's just that a lot of the sidebar content out there would look great with Script Control as to placement on Desktop and also be able to hide it when you did't need it to show.

Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Thanks everyone, and also a great Thank you for the code that  " Sir Smiley " came up with, it works great!! I had to tweak it just a little and not all of the png files I use for my Menu System enlarge very smoothly from 72 pixels to 92 pixels.

Now all I have to do is place a little more vbscripting in there to change the color of the text labels I build and set as child to the PNG file on the menu.

Take care Mr Smiley that was great!!!!

Now if I can just figure out the side bar idea I will have it made.

See ya..

If you are on Vista, and wish not to use the sidebar, I know you can load the sidebar, load a gadget to it, then you can detach the gadget from the sidebar and have it in the middle of your screen. Then you can close the sidebar Lot of trouble, I don't use Vista much, it may be easier than that,dunno.

I want to remind you however that the original Vista Sidebar is extremely unstable. If you position an object "off" the sidebar it moves about 1mm each time you restart your computer.

Remake them in DX, or find ones that are already widgets/objects NOT sidebar gadgets.
Thats one way.
